Welcome to the Official Website of the Ving Tsun Self Defense Academy
We are Chicago’s premier academy teaching the Chinese martial art of Ving Tsun (pronounced “Wing Chun”) as passed down from Master Ip Ching, the youngest son of the late Grandmaster Ip Man to Sifu Matt Johnson. Sifu Matt has been studying Ving Tsun for over twenty years.

INSTRUCTION: Ving Tsun for adults and children age 10 and up. Open classes, private lessons, seminars, custom courses for individuals, corporations and self-defense for industry-specific conditions.
INTERVIEW: Since the Academy is not operated on a commercial basis, accepting anyone who shows up at the door, prospective students must call and set up an interview and fill out an application to join the Academy. This interview process is in place to insure a good fit between Sifu and student, and to make sure the potential student is of good character and will not adversely affect the other students or the atmosphere of the school. Also, the potential student can see the Academy, meet some of the other students, get an overall feel for the school, and ask questions about the style and the instructor.
